When an athlete suffers a muscle injury, support and compression are a natural part of the recovery process. It helps muscles, nerves, and tissue heal better and faster.

– So why shouldn't the same apply to the pelvic floor?

That question has occupied urogynecologist Karl Møller Bek for more than 40 years. Throughout his career, he has examined and treated women daily – both those with acute birth injuries and those living with long-term complications following childbirth.

Pregnancy and childbirth place significant strain on the pelvic floor. In fact, vaginal birth is the leading cause of injury to the pelvic floor muscles and the connective tissue that supports the pelvic organs.

Our solution

The rest of our founding team consists of midwife Eva Aalbæk Dimon, engineer Mads Østergaard, and nurse Matilde Fevre. Together, we've developed a unique pair of supportive underwear and a silicone support pad for pelvic support.

The underwear provides targeted compression around the vulva to help reduce swelling, while the support pad gently lifts the pelvic floor muscles upwards and backwards towards their natural position.

Together, they are designed to help relieve symptoms such as swelling, pain, and a feeling of heaviness – both in the first weeks after childbirth and later in life.

Our hope is that, in the future, we'll be able to show that women who receive early pelvic floor support after childbirth experience fewer pelvic floor problems later in life.

Karl Møller Bek is a Consultant Urogynaecologist and Obstetrician with more than 40 years of experience treating birth injuries. He earned his PhD researching childbirth-related injuries and has dedicated his career to caring for women with injuries to the pelvic floor muscles and the connective tissue supporting the pelvic organs.

Throughout his career, Karl has seen firsthand how many women are left to cope with postpartum symptoms on their own, often without access to the knowledge or support they need. As co-founder of GynZone, he has spent many years educating doctors and midwives in the diagnosis and treatment of birth injuries through both hands-on training and professional education.

For almost a decade, Karl has been developing support briefs and a support pad designed to help women recover from pelvic floor muscle injuries after childbirth. This work ultimately led to the creation of LaevaCare.

Karl brought together the multidisciplinary team behind LaevaCare and continues to play a central role in the company's development. He ensures that every product is grounded in robust clinical evidence and reflects the challenges he has encountered throughout his medical career.

Eva Dimon is a midwife who on a daily basis works closely with pregnant women, women in labour and new mothers. Through her daily clinical practice, she has developed extensive expertise in women's bodies during pregnancy, childbirth and the postpartum period, as well as a deep understanding of the challenges many women face after giving birth.

Eva has played a key role in developing and testing potential solutions in collaboration with new mothers. She helps ensure that LaevaCare's products are designed with the postpartum body in mind, providing support that feels safe, gentle and easy to incorporate into everyday life.

His expertise helps ensure that LaevaCare's products are developed not only with care and compassion, but also with technical precision, delivering support that is stable, reliable and reassuring in everyday life.

We know that pregnancy and childbirth affect the pelvic floor. Hormonal changes, stretching, and birth tears all put strain on the muscles and connective tissue, while the tissues remain softer and more vulnerable in the weeks after birth.

Every time you stand up, cough, or lift something, the pelvic floor is exposed to extra pressure from gravity and increased abdominal pressure. Without support, this may place additional strain on healing tissues, delay recovery, and increase the risk of long-term pelvic floor problems.

The consequences can be significant. Women may experience pain, a feeling of heaviness, urinary or bowel incontinence, and, over time, pelvic organ prolapse. These symptoms can affect everyday life, physical activity, confidence, intimacy, and overall quality of life. They may also increase the need for surgery later on.

We believe that providing support through targeted compression and gentle lifting of the pelvic floor muscles may help newly injured tissues heal in the weeks after childbirth.

Our vision is that early pelvic floor support during the first four to eight weeks after birth can reduce the strain on healing tissues, support recovery, improve comfort, and ultimately help more women avoid long-term pelvic floor problems.
